On April 28, 2004, police in Houston, Texas arrested 31-year-old Ronnie Whitehead after they seized white powder from him that field-tested positive for cocaine.
On April 30, 2004, Whitehead pled guilty in Harris County Criminal District Court to possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to six months in Texas State Jail.
Ten years later, in August 2014, the Harris County District Attorney’s Post Conviction Review Unit informed Whitehead that the Houston Police crime laboratory tested the powder seized from him, and it was negative.
On August 19, 2014, the prosecution joined in a motion by Whitehead’s defense lawyer to vacate the conviction. The motion was granted and the case was dismissed.
