Before Early Interview Week and the 4,600 interviews that accompany it, there is Meet the Employers and the opportunity for 1Ls to begin building the breadth of research and relationships that can launch their legal careers.
Sponsored by the Office of Career Planning, Meet the Employers gives 1Ls and potential employers the chance to interact one-on-one in a decidedly relaxed environment.
"It's not a pressure-filled situation," said recruitment manager Kim LeClair. "It's a great opportunity for students to learn about individual firms, and there are lot of alumni who come back on behalf of their firms who are interested and excited to meet our new crop of students."
Meeting more than 60 potential employers as a 1L can help students focus their studies and summer work going forward and may even help them decide between firms during the EIW bid process, LeClair said.
This year's program, which will feature representatives of law firms and private corporations, will take place Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Michigan Union. Counselors will offer a pre-Meet the Employers event on Monday, Feb. 2, from 11:50 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., in South Hall Room 1225 to provide interested students with the networking tools they'll need to make the most of their introduction to potential employers at this and other career fairs.
First-year students who plan to attend Meet the Employers must RSVP online by 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5.
