Health and Wellness Fair

Health and Wellness Fair to Offer Flu Shots, Farmers' Market Sept. 23

Sept. 11, 2014

A flu shot clinic, farmers' market, chef demonstration, and complimentary massage station are among the featured offerings of the 2014 Fall Health and Wellness Fair.

Sponsored by the MHealthy Wellness Champions from the Law School and U-M Business & Finance, the event will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the plaza between South Hall and Weill Hall. Flu shots will be administered inside the Jeffries Lounge on the first floor of South Hall.

Shelley Anzalone and Laura Shiltz, the MHealthy Champions for Michigan Law, encourage students, faculty, and staff to attend, as "the fair is a great way to learn about the many health services available to the U-M community, while also being a convenient way to get this season's flu shot."

The on-site flu shot clinic will be provided by MHealthy, in partnership with Michigan Visiting Care. While there are no out-of-pocket fees for employees covered under a U-M health insurance plan, employees should bring proof of insurance. Those not covered under one of the accepted insurance plans can still get a flu shot for $25, payable by cash, check, or credit card.

Other fair offerings include a chef's demonstration, where attendees can learn to make watermelon in an arugula salad from Caleb Pizana, the general manager and chef of the Law School's Kirkland and Ellis Café, as well as purchase fresh produce grown locally by Zilke Farm (cash, credit, or debit cards are accepted). In addition, the Massage Therapy Program will provide free massages to participants.

Other vendors will be on hand to promote their services and share health-related information. They include: U-M FASAP (Faculty and Staff Assistance Program), MHealthy, Planet Blue, Rec Sports, Running Fit, U-M School of Dentistry, and UMove Fitness.
