The University of Michigan Board of Regents has reappointed Dean
Mark D. West, Nippon Life Professor of Law, to a second five-year term. The reappointment follows an extensive review process and recommendation by the University's Interim Provost Paul N. Courant.
In his first term, Dean West has focused on a four-point plan encompassing teaching and curriculum, enhancing student life and the broader intellectual community at the Law School, resources for students, and support for faculty research and external engagement. He also has revitalized the Law School's Educational Environment Committee, demonstrating his commitment to allocate resources to make real progress toward diversity, equity, and inclusion.
"I am pleased that Mark West has agreed to continue serving the Law School as dean," Courant said. "His expansive orientation toward research and scholarship and his support of professional practice and training has fostered innovative planning and programming that supports the work of faculty, students, and staff. He is an exceptionally effective dean who leads with respect, imagination, and inspiration."
Dean West's second term will be effective September 1, 2018, through August 31, 2023.
