Electronic Research

The Law Library catalogs hundreds of electronic resources. Here are a few resources our Reference Librarians find are particularly useful for Journal staff:

General Legal Resources

  • Find An Electronic Article - Enter your citation in the search form to find out if the University of Michigan has access to an electronic copy of the journal or article.
  • Hein Online - Find pdf documents in a number of research areas including: Law Reviews/Journals; State Session Laws; Congressional materials; US Code; Code of Federal Regulations; Federal Register; US Reports; Treaties; English Reports; United Nations documents and much more.
  • Lexis Nexis Congressional - Contains full text and some pdfs of Congressioanl documents including Senate and House reports, hearings, and committee prints.
  • Index to Legal Periodicals & Index to Legal Periodicals Retrospective - Indexes articles from hundreds of legal publications, excellent for finding citations to articles by subject/Topic/Title/Author.
  • LegalTrac - Indexes articles from hundreds of legal publications (some cross coverage with the Index to Legal Periodicals). Many articles are available for download directly from LegalTrac.
  • Browse Resources by Type of Content: Articles | Cases | Laws & Statutes | Regulations

International/ Foreign Resources

  • Foreign Law Guide (Reynolds & Flores) - Includes information abou the legal structure of a state, as well as bibliographic information and links to internet sources for foreign laws.
  • Access UN - Your access point for finding United Nations documents online and in print.
  • United Nations Official Documents (ODS) - Includes full-text access to documents of various bodies of the UN including the General Assembly, Security Council and the Economic and Social Council. Documents include resolutions, reports, meeting records and more.
  • EISIL -  The Electronic Information System for International Law website contains links to primary documents, recommended web sites, and research guides, as well as other added information.
  • EurLex - Provides direct free access to European Union law. The system makes it possible to consult the Official Journal of the European Union and it includes inter alia the treaties, legislation, case-law and legislative proposals.

Non Legal Resources

  • Library Catalogs - In addition to the resources available in our library, search other library catalogs for specific books, journals or other resources.
  • Proquest - full text and pdf access to hundreds of social sciences periodicals
  • Proquest Historical Newspapers - full text and pdf access to historical papers including the NYT, Washington Post and the Chicago Tribune
  • Jstor - full text and pdf access to hundreds of social science and natural science periodicals, including law journals.
  • Social Science Citaton Index - provides citations to hundreds of social science articles by subject, topic, author or title. Can also be used to trace how often an article is cited.
