About Us

Any member of the financial aid staff is able to answer general financial aid questions you may have via telephone or email, or as a walk-in. Lengthier, more complicated situations may require an appointment.

In addition to assisting with all general financial aid inquiries, the financial aid staff has areas of specialty:

Nate Bauer, Director of Financial Aid
Need- and merit-based aid

Nate joined the Financial Aid Office in October 2020. Prior to joining the Law School, he achieved candidacy in the doctoral program in higher education at the U-M Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education in the School of Education. His research focuses on financial aid policy, enrollment management, and issues of access to higher education. Before beginning his doctoral work, Nate worked as an assistant director in the central U-M Office of Financial Aid where he implemented and interpreted federal, state, and local policy initiatives. Nate received a BS in interdisciplinary studies in social science from Michigan State University, a MA in educational policy and leadership studies from the University of Iowa, and is currently working toward completion of a PhD in higher education at U-M with a focus on public policy in postsecondary education. Outside of work, Nate enjoys spending time with his family, watching sports, and getting Up North as frequently as possible to find new spots to run and hike.
