Michigan Law is known for producing both great legal thinkers and great legal doers. The "doing" is a craft, and we provide students with the tools and competencies they will need to ultimately master it and engage in the process of lifelong learning and professional growth. Our commitment to producing career-ready, well-rounded lawyers dates back to our first clinic in 1969. That commitment remains strong today as the legal market presses for more able graduates with the capacity to continually learn from their experience. Each year we offer nearly 40 experiential classroom-based practice simulations, in addition to the mandatory 1L Legal Practice Program. We guarantee every student enrollment in at least one of our 16 upper-level clinics, and many take more. Our externs practice in South Africa, Geneva, and across the United States. And we continue to innovate with programs like our unique 1L clinic where second-semester students try administrative cases on behalf of their clients.
