Description: Join ACS for lunch and discussion with Michigan Alum and Indiana University Maurer School of Law Professor Steve Sanders.

In October, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear a trio of cases about whether Title VII, the federal sex-discrimination law, protects sexual orientation or gender identity. Professor Sanders will discuss the backgrounds of these cases, their prospects for success, and why statutory interpretation may hold less promise for advancing LGBTQ equality than the Constitution.

Steve Sanders is professor of law at the Maurer School of Law, Indiana University Bloomington, with additional appointments in Political Science and Gender Studies. A 2005 Michigan Law graduate, he served as an articles editor on the Michigan Law Review and won the Bates Memorial Scholarship, the law school’s highest award for graduating seniors. He practiced for four years with Mayer Brown LLP in Chicago, where he became the firm's most junior attorney to present a U.S. Supreme Court oral argument in a paid-client matter.
