SUMMARY:

Case concerns the inducement of plaintiff from the Philippines to the United States (somewhere in Wisconsin). Plaintiff was brought from the Phillipines at age 19. When she arrived, the defendants confiscated her passport and required her to reimburse them the cost of her plane ticket. She was unable to speak English for the first 5 to 6 years of her stay. Defendants forced plaintiff to work long hours (6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for 7 days per week) as a live-in housekeeper for little or no money. Defendants also limited her access to the outside world. She couldn't leave the house, open the door or leave her basement room when the Calimlims were entertaining. She could only answer the phone when one of their children called. She could not seek outside medical or dental care. Plaintiff was held by defendants for 19 years and only discovered during an FBI raid.
