Neis, Rachel

Rachel Neis is an assistant professor jointly appointed in the Program for Judaic Studies and in the History Department at the University of Michigan. She has a PhD in Judaic studies from Harvard University and also holds degrees in law from the London School of Economics (LLB hons.) and philosophy of religion from Boston University (MA). Prof. Neis's interests include Rabbinic literature and culture, the history of the senses, comparative ancient and contemporary law, and legal theory and Jewish visual culture. Her book, The Sense of Sight in Rabbinic Culture: Jewish Ways of Seeing in Late Antiquity, is forthcoming with Cambridge University Press.
