Judge Victoria A. Roberts serves on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Prior to her appointment by President William Jefferson Clinton in 1998, Roberts was a partner in the Detroit law firm of Goodman, Eden, Millender and Bedrosian, ultimately becoming its managing partner.
Roberts has experience as an assistant U.S. attorney and as a court-appointed special master and arbitrator. She served as the 62nd president of the State Bar of Michigan from 1996-1997, the same year she was named a Lawyer of the Year by Michigan Lawyers Weekly. She is a recipient of the two highest awards conferred by the State Bar of Michigan: Champion of Justice and Roberts P. Hudson.
Roberts is a frequent speaker and lecturer. She has been a faculty member for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, the Trial Advocacy Workshop of the United States District Court–Eastern District of Michigan, and the Federal Bar Association's Federal Law Program and Summer Associate Program. She also has lectured and taught in Kenya and Serbia. Roberts is a Master of the Bench for the American Inns of Court. She serves on her bench's Pro Bono Committee as well as The State Bar of Michigan Foundation.
Roberts earned her undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Michigan in 1973 and her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law in 1976.
