Housing
Variety, convenience, and affordability.
A variety of housing options are available to students enrolled at the University of Michigan Law School, with choices divided into two categories: on-campus and off-campus housing.
On-Campus Housing:
On-campus housing is provided through leases signed with specific housing facilities at the University. Single students, or those not accompanied by a spouse or partner, may apply for either a single or a shared room at the Lawyers Club. For students accompanied by their families, as well as for a small number of single graduate students, there are university-owned apartments of various sizes, collectively known as “Northwood Community Apartments.”
The Lawyers Club
Michigan Law’s primary residence comprises two sides of the Law Quadrangle and houses J.D. as well as graduate students. Many law students choose to live in the Lawyers Club, taking advantage of its beauty, convenience, and camaraderie. With a lease concurrent with the Laws School's academic calendar, furnished rooms, a 13-meal-per-week meal plan, cable TV and ethernet connectivity, and across-the-green proximity to classes and the Library, the Lawyers Club offers unparalleled access to the Law School’s resources and a network of friends and neighbors. Lawyers Club applications are mailed to students with their offers of admission to the Law School.
Family Housing
Family housing, as well as additional housing for single graduate students, is offered at the Northwood Community Apartments, located on North Campus – about three miles from Central Campus and the Law School. Some of these apartments and townhouses are furnished, others are not. Free and frequent University bus service is available between the two locations. The Northwood Community Apartments also offer additional resources for families, such as child care and English classes for spouses, partners and children.
Off-Campus Housing
Off-campus rental housing is divided into two types: furnished housing located within walking distance of campus – where most students prefer to live – and unfurnished housing, generally located a mile or more from campus, often on a bus route, and primarily consisting of low-rise apartment complexes.
