Due to uncertainty in the coming months resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, including a University wide hiring freeze, Michigan Law is not accepting fellowship applications at this time.
The Michigan Society of Fellows (MSF), under the auspices of the University's Rackham Graduate School, was established in 1970 with endowment grants from the Ford Foundation and the Horace H. and Mary Rackham Funds. One of the most distinguished societies of its kind, the Michigan Society of Fellows selects outstanding applicants for appointment to three-year fellowships in the humanities, the arts, the social, physical, and life sciences, and in the Law School and other professional schools.
The purpose of the fellowship is to support outstanding scholars at the beginning of their academic careers. Each fellow is appointed as assistant professor (non-tenure track) in the sponsoring school or department for the three-year fellowship term. Fellows devote themselves to research, attend MSF seminars and events, and undertake limited teaching (typically the equivalent of one annual teaching load spread across the three-year fellowship).
MSF fellows based at the Law School are fully integrated into the Law School's faculty community, taking part in workshops and colloquia, with regular opportunities to present their work to faculty colleagues. Fellows also benefit from mentoring by regular members of the Law School faculty.
The MSF and Law School invite applications from qualified candidates with a JD, PhD, or comparable degree awarded between June 1, 2017, and September 1, 2020. Applications from degree candidates and PhD recipients from the University of Michigan will not be considered. Non-US citizens may apply.
The application deadline is Tuesday, September 24, 2019, 1:00 PM EDT. For more information, please visit the Michigan Society of Fellows application guidlines or contact MSF staff at firstname.lastname@example.org or Tracey Kuffel at the Law School email@example.com.
