The University of Michigan Law School has long understood that enrolling students with a broad range of perspectives and experiences generates a vibrant culture of comprehensive debate and discussion. Essay submissions are an extremely helpful tool for evaluating potential contributions to our community. To that end, we require a personal statement, and also invite applicants to submit one or two supplemental essays from among the eight topics described in the application. For a fuller discussion of the form and content of essay submissions, please see the Attachments section under "Supplemental Essays" of the LSAC FlexApp, or our application PDF.
If there is any information in your application that you wish to clarify—for example, your undergraduate record or gaps in employment—you may submit that information in the Attachments section under "Addendum." You may submit as many addenda as you need.
