Michigan Law’s Avani Bhatt was named one of two winners of McDermott Will & Emery (MWE) Minority Scholarships, the firm announced yesterday. Bhatt and co-winner Ateet Adhikari, a University of Illinois law student, are the first recipients of the $15,000 scholarships.
A second year student at Michigan Law, Ms. Bhatt, from Troy, MI, graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in political science and psychology awarded summa cum laude. She served as a law clerk at the Asian American Justice Center in Washington, DC this past summer and is on the editorial staff of the Michigan Journal of Race & Law.
“Our new minority scholarship program is just one of the initiatives we are taking as a Firm to help achieve greater diversity at McDermott and in the legal profession,” commented Harvey W. Freishtat, Chairman of MWE. “Both Ateet and Avani exemplify the qualities we are looking for in our law school recruits.”
Evan Caminker, Dean of the University of Michigan Law School, added that “Avani Bhatt is a stellar representative of the type of law student we seek bright, intellectually engaged, and committed to making a significant contribution. All of us at the Law School congratulate her on this distinguished award and wish her well in her academic and professional career.”
