REMEMBERING JUAN TIENDA  Michigan Law's annual Juan Luis Tienda Scholarship Banquet, named in honor of the Michigan Law student who died before his final year of law school, was held April 5 in the Aikens Commons. Tienda was an advocate for the rights of migrant workers and prison inmates and served as the president of La Raza Law Students Association, now the Latino Law Students Association (LLSA). The event featured keynote speaker and MLaw alumnus Martin Castro, '88, chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, as well as the awarding of the Juan Luis Tienda Scholarship to Daniela Tagtachian. The scholarship is given to 1Ls who have demonstrated a commitment to working in underserved Latino communities.
