Finding resources on the UM Law Library Website
The Law Library's website contains many resources that can help you with your legal research, whether you're here on campus or anywhere else in the world.
Reference Resources Pages
Our own highly trained law librarians have prepared research guides and other materials to help you navigate your way through all kinds of legal research tasks.
Research Guides: These guides cover topics such as U.S. legislative history, foreign legal research, legal history, British statutes, and more.
Library Workshop Materials: Our reference librarians often visit your law school classes to give presentations on various legal research topics. If you've ever attended one of these presentations, it's likely that there is an online supplement to it on the Workshop Materials page. Recent topics include the European Union, Comparative Constitutional Law, Cyperspace Law, and American Legal History.
"How do I...?" Pages: These short guides provide tutorials on more specific research tasks, such as how to use the CCH Research Network, the Congressional Record, or how to find State Digest Materials.
Electronic Resources Pages
Our librarians have put together lists of links to electronic legal research sources. These lists include both free resources, and other resources that the library subscribes to--you can log in to these through our proxy server from wherever you are by using your uniqname and password.
"Ask a Law Librarian" Service: We welcome your reference questions during the summer months whether or not you are able to come to the reference desk. Just email your questions to email@example.com or fill in our online form.
Expedited Photocopy Service: For quick access to print materials at the University of Michigan Law Library, you can request them through our Expedited Photocopy Service. For fees and details, see the link above.
Many students will be working in other states this summer, or doing research involving other states. For information on state-specific legal research, check out the sites collected in this section. This section is under construction.
