Library Hours: 8AM to midnight May 27 - Nov. 24

Exiting the Library in an Emergency

There are two fire exits in the Smith (or underground) Addition, one at the North end to the right of the drinking fountains, and the other at the West end near the elevator lobby. There are signs marking these exits on each sub-level. The doors are alarmed, and so should only be used in case of an emergency. These exits will take you up to ground level and outside.

See Map of Sub-levels.

  • DO NOT use the grand stairway to get to Legal Research
  • Don’t use elevators.

In the Legal Research stacks, there are exits at the Northwest and Southeast corners of the building.

See Map of Legal Research Stacks.

Again, there are Exit signs directing you where to go.

  • Remember that in Legal Research, floor 3 is ground level.
  • DO NOT use the stone staircase.
  • Don't use elevators.

Unable to Use Stairs

Make your way inside nearest enclosed fire stairway on your floor (see below for locations) and wait for assistance. If possible ask someone else who is exiting (preferably a library staff member) to notify the fire fighters or security officers of your exact location.

DO NOT use the elevators.
