Externships
Externship programs are under the jurisdiction of the Curricular, Co-curricular, and Pedagogic Issues Committee.
Some states have requirements for hours of study in a law school under immediate faculty supervision. It is the intention of the Law School that only externships involving intensive supervision by an attorney at the host site, and careful guidance by a member of the Law School faculty, be permitted. Students should check the requirements of the states in which they may wish to be admitted to practice to determine the permissibility of a semester spent on externship.
For the most part, the procedures outlined within these pages apply to both the domestic and South Africa externship programs. Some deviations may exist for the South Africa externships; these are noted within the pages. Students are responsible for following the correct procedures for their externship application/proposal.
The Geneva externship application process is coordinated by the Center for International and Comparative Studies. Students interested in pursuing a Geneva externship should consult with that office.
