Econ Analysis of Law

Economic Analysis of Law

This seminar introduces students to the use of economics as a set of tools for analyzing law. We will focus on basic questions: What effects does law have? Do people and organizations behave differently because of the threat of legal sanctions? By working through Steven Shavell's Foundations of Economic Analysis of Law textbook and many "problems" that derive from our discussions of that work, the seminar will illuminate familiar areas of law, including criminal law, torts, contracts, and civil procedure. No economics background is needed -- the seminar will be aimed at a general audience of students.
