The Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship is awarded annually to a law student who is a resident of Alabama, is attending an accredited law school in the United States and will be a second year student. The amount of the scholarship is $5000. A second place scholarship of $1000 will be awarded at the committee's discretion. While academic achievement is the key factor in determining eligibility for the scholarship; consideration will be given to other factors such as conscientiousness, dependability, civic involvement, financial need and dedication to the highest ethical standards. The Kern County Women Lawyers Association (KCWLA) of Bakersfield, California is an organization that supports and promotes women attorneys as well as issues of gender, diversity and equality. Each year, the KCWLA awards at least one scholarship for second, third, or fourth year law students. The scholarship award varies from $250 to $3000.

Scholars receive up to $50,000 per year to pursue a graduate or professional degree. Selection is based on intelligence, leadership, academic achievement, critical thinking ability, potential to make a significant contribution to field of study and/or society, volunteerism/public service and appreciation for/participation in the arts and humanities. To be eligible a student must:

  • Be a college senior.
  • Be a "resident" of Virginia, Maryland or the District of Columbia (see application for residency qualifications).
  • Plan to enroll full-time in a graduate degree program at an accredited institution during Fall 2003.
  • Have a college grade point average of at least "B" (or the equivalent).

Maui County Bar Association
The Maui County Bar Association offers the MCBA/Arthur T. Ueoka Scholarship. The award is made annually to a student who is enrolled, or has been accepted, to an accredited law school; has significant ties to Maui County; and demonstrates a compelling financial need.

The Aurora Foundation Scholarship Program consists of separate Scholarship funds created by individual donors who establish specific criteria for the administration of their scholarships. Available to full-time students whose permanent residence must be in Aurora, Illinois, including Kendall County and southern Kane County. These scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors, undergraduate college students, and graduate students. Legal domicility in the greater Chicago metropolitan area, or in some cases, Cook County or Northwest Indiana is required.   • The Otis M. Smith Scholarship Program provides scholarships for working single mothers who pursue higher education on at least a half-time basis. Not more than four scholarships of $3,000 will be awarded to successful candidates from select nationally recognized universities: Wayne State University, all campuses of the University of Michigan and the Columbus College of Law at Catholic University Law School. Applicants must be current residents of any of the following counties of southeastern Michigan: Wayne, Oakland, or Macomb.

  • The Jeptha Wade Schureman Scholarship Program provides children who have lost their fathers because of death or loss of parental rights before reaching the age of majority with a scholarship of $7,500 for use at one of the 15 public universities in Michigan. Applicants must be residents of the following counties at the time of high school graduation: Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Lenawee, Washtenaw, Livingston or St. Clair. Candidates must also demonstrate financial need, scholastic achievement, leadership and character, and be between the ages of 17 - 27.

The Western District of Michigan awards annually $4,500 in scholarships to law students who are either from the Western Federal Judicial District of Michigan or have a connection to the practice of law in the Western District of Michigan which suggests that they will become practitioners in this geographic area upon their completion of their legal studies. The Committee requests that the applicant provide a copy of his or her current resume, a cover letter describing the candidate's connection to the Western District of Michigan and a statement not to exceed three pages in length describing the qualifications the candidate believes warrant his or her selection for a scholarship.

Several scholarships of at least $2,000 will be awarded. There are two types of J.L. Turner Legal Association Minority Law Student Scholarships: merit and financial need.
