The contest is calling for current and entering law students to create and submit a brief video describing what inspired them to pursue a legal career. Access Group's panel of judges will choose the 10 finalists, and voting will begin August 3, 2009. Students, colleagues and the entire country will vote to decide the winner of a $10,000 scholarship. Up to five additional honorable mention scholarships of $1,500 each will also be awarded.

Scholarships are available to all liberal arts degree holders of any regionally-accredited U.S. institution who wish to pursue a CPA certificate. Scholarships are given based on academic achievement, leadership and future career interests and are contingent upon acceptance in a graduate accounting program. Each year, up to seven recipients will be awarded $5,000 and will be eligible for renewal for one more year, provided satisfactory scholastic progress is maintained.

This scholarship seeks to recognize second-year University of Michigan Law students who, notwithstanding their academic standing in the middle of their class, hold out great promise of being beneficial contributors to the legal community or society as a whole, based upon their activities both in and out of the classroom. The scholarship will award $1,000 to one student (or between $500 and $750 if more than one student is selected) to help cover the cost of their third year at the University of Michigan Law School.

The Attorney-CPA Foundation will award fourteen scholarships in amounts ranging from $250 to $1000. The Child Care Subsidy Program provides funds to students with children to assist them in meeting the cost of licensed child care. Priority for funds will be given to students with the greatest financial need. Information and applications are available at The Child Care Subsidy Program link above.

The Graduate Scholarship enables students or recent alumni with exceptional promise and demonstrated financial need to pursue up to six years of study at an accredited graduate institution in the U.S. or abroad. Awards can be as much as $50,000 annually. To be eligible a student must:

  • Be a college senior or a recent graduate (last five years) from an accredited college or university in the U.S.,
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better on a 4.0 scale,
  • Plan to begin graduate school in the coming fall, and
  • Be nominated by his or her undergraduate institution.

The competition is open to all students, practitioners, and academics interested in trademarks and trademark law. To be eligible to compete in the student category, authors must be enrolled as either full- or part-time law or graduate students. For students outside of the United States, university enrollment is acceptable. To be eligible to compete in the professional category, authors may be legal practitioners, business professionals or academics. The Business Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan offers an annual writing competition and Business Law Section Scholarship Award. The writing competition is open to all law students enrolled in an ABA accredited law school in the State of Michigan. A prize of $2,500 will be awarded to the student with the best article, and the student will have his or her article published in the Section's Business Law Journal.

The Supreme Court of Oklahoma is offering several types of scholarships:

  • The Ed Edmondson Scholarship offers full tuition to the Symposium and is available to as many as one hundred persons. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in and dedication to Native American law issues and the need for a scholarship in a letter of application.
    Deadline: May 10
  • The Susan J. Ferrell Scholarship offers full tuition, meals and travel to the Symposium. It is awarded to one law student who demonstrates an interest in and contribution to Native American legal issues.
    Deadline: April 1
  • The Chief Justice John B. Doolin Writing Competition offers first, second, and third prizes in the amounts of $500, $300, and $200. The subject matter of the paper may be on any area of the law relating to Native Americans or other indigenous peoples.

The Center for Japanese Studies provides conference travel funding and summer and academic year fellowships on a competitive basis to University of Michigan graduate and professional students whose studies focus on Japan. Applicants must be admitted by a UM graduate degree program to be considered for Center funding. Fellowship awards vary in size and range from several hundred to full tuition and stipend, depending on the applicant's merit and fund availability.

The Center offers the following financial assistance:

  • CEW Scholarships are given at the graduate, professional and undergraduate levels to women and men whose education has been interrupted. The interruption in education must be for at least a) 48 consecutive months or b) a total of 48 months, not counting interruptions of less than 8 months. The interruption may have taken place at any point in the pursuit of higher education. If you feel your situation meets the intent, if not the exact criteria, and warrants an exception, please submit an explanation of your circumstances in writing for an evaluation by the eligibility committee prior to submitting an application. Approximately 40 scholarships are awarded annually ranging from about $1,000 to $8,000, with some larger awards given. Strength of motivation, promise of impact in a chosen field, academic record and potential, and creative and scholarly contributions, are among the criteria for choosing the scholars.
    Deadline: January 29
  • CEW Critical Difference Emergency Grants: Small grants are available for students (men and women) at University of Michigan. An appointment with a CEW counselor is necessary for consideration.

The Center also provides financial counseling and has in their library many reference volumes listing supplemental aid sources. 

University of Michigan Telluride House
A residential community at the University of Michigan, Telluride House brings together students who share a passion for intellectual interchange, a dedication to improving public life, and a commitment to self-government. Telluride House offers full room and board scholarships to twenty to thirty undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of academic backgrounds, political views, and cultural perspectives.

The University of Michigan UM/ULI Real Estate Forum
The University of Michigan and Urban Land Institute Real Estate Forum will award five $2,000 scholarships to students. UM graduate students who study business, architecture, urban planning, public policy, law, natural resources or engineering and wish to be considered for one of the $2,000 scholarships must submit their resume along with a brief paper. Specific instructions for the paper are available at the above Web site.
