Graduating 3L

Congratulations!  As a graduating 3L you might be wondering what happens next. Below are links that will get you headed in the right direction.

Bar Loans
are available from various private lenders to cover your needs associated with taking the bar and bar related costs. More information on lenders that offer bar loans can be found on our bar study loan comparison chart [PDF].

Exit Interview: The federal government requires that all federal loan recipients have an exit interview before graduation. We have a group exit interview to come or you can complete the requirement on the Direct Loan Servicing Web site at: www.dl.ed.gov/exitcounseling/ecec-main.asp.

The Debt ManagemenT Program: If you are interested in a modest paying law-related job after graduation, the Law School's Debt Management Program might be a good option for you. We have a debt management FAQ for more details.

The College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007 established, among other things, two new programs that will be of particular interest to graduates going into low paying and public interest jobs. Income Based Repayment (Section 203 of the Act) allows borrowers to pay back their federal loans on the basis of their income at the time of repayment. Loan Forgiveness (Section 401 of the Act) will forgive federal Direct loans after 120 payments and 10 years of full time employment in the public service sector.  Our CCRAA FAQ provides more details on these programs.

Federal Loan Consolidation: Many of you will have already consolidated your federal loans but if not, or you wish to consolidate your more recent loans, we have a consolidation FAQ for further information.
