How To Use Our Law Library From Off-quad
Location: S-180 LR
Event Contact: Veronica R. Richard, vrichard@umich.edu, 734.763.7191

Here are the two most important tips:

FIRST: you can access all online resources the same way from abroad as you do from home in Ann Arbor: go through the Law Library's website, http://www.law.umich.edu/library/
On the left side, the first two items are "electronic resources list" [list of places like HeinOnLine, Index to Legal Periodicals and many more], "electronic journals list" [alphabetical list of all journals available electronically]. Find the resource you want and click on it. If the resource is one we pay for, you will be asked for your uniqname and kerberos password, and then you will be passed through to the resource itself. You cannot get to these resources by going directly to them, e.g. to www.heinonline.com. LEXIS and WESTLAW: access directly as you do now, or go through our homepage. Be sure to check your printer settings so they go to your attached printer rather than somewhere in the Law School.

SECOND, you can ask our Reference Librarians for help by going to the bottom of the far right column on our homepage: Ask a Law Librarian email. This will bring up your email system with the address to askalawlibrarian@umich.edu filled in, and you can just send your question. Or, just send an email to askalawlibrarian@umich.edu.
Reference Librarians staff the email service Sunday-Thursday during the Fall & Winter terms, and Monday-Friday during the Spring/Summer terms. Turn around time for each question is approximately 1-3 business days, excluding University holidays and semester intersessions.
