APPEAL STILL PENDING?:
SUMMARY:In 2006, Plaintiff went with her relatives from Cameroon to the U.S., after being told she would be able to go to nursing school. Instead, the Ngoubene family forced her into a condition of servitude by making her do unpaid domestic work for long hours every day. She was given little food and denied medical care. The family told her that if she tried to leave she would be arrested and that they would use their influence to ensure she and her family were punished. After her escape, the family used threats and violence to try to stop Plaintiff from seeking compensation. Francois, Marie-Therese, and Collins were dropped as defendants because of diplomatic immunity. A settlement conference was held on March 6, 2014.
