SUMMARY:Defendants Lee and Bulls-Hit used contractor Defendant Uzzle to recruit, hire, transport, and provide workers for Lee's and Bulls-Hit's agricultural labor needs in 2009 and 2010. Uzzle recruited drug-addicted migrant agricultural workers at homeless shelters in Jacksonville, FL. The victims worked on Lee's farm, picking potatoes. The cost of housing, food, and drugs were taken from their wages. Defendants would give workers loans at very high interest rates, which were also deducted from their wages. Defendants forced the workers to perform labor by controlling the only means of transportation, threatening the workers with physical violence, and fueling their drug addiction. The defendants reached a settlement with the plaintiffs.
