SUMMARY:Plaintiff is a citizen of India who came to the U.S. with a R-1 visa to work for defendants Mr. and Mrs. Sharma. On top of officiating ceremonies and leading group prayers, plaintiff was forced to perform janitorial and other cleaning work. Plaintiff worked 17 hours a day. Defendants confiscated plaintiff's passport, monitored him, and recorded his phone calls. They threatened the plaintiff and forced him to sleep in a bathroom like room. Plaintiff sued under the human trafficking provision of the TVPA and was awarded compensatory and punitive damages.
