SUMMARY:Mexican national Miguel Angel Rugerio pled guilty to conspiracy to illegally transport women from Mexico to the United States for the purposes of prostitution, and engaging in illicit sex trafficking. He was sentenced to 5 years in federal prison after which time he will be deported to Mexico. From July 2006 to August 2008, the defendant recruited 5 young, poor women to come to the U.S. from Mexico, promising them work and marriage. Once in Georgia, they were forced through threats, assaults, and psychological coercion to participate in commercial sex acts by the defendant that financially benefited the members of the conspiracy. Some were brought to other states for sex acts including Alabama and Florida.
