SUMMARY:Defendant kept a 24 year old woman as a slave in her apartment. She beat the victim regularly, and forced the young woman to stay out of sight so no one would see the bruises and cuts all over her face. She was regularly threatened with harm (physical and economic) to her family in Russia. The victim told reporters that she was forced into prostitution, but Defendant did not plead guilty to any charges of forced prostitution. The victim was never left alone, and was watched while she called her mother in Russia. Some other tenants in the apartment building heard her cries, but did nothing about it. Employees of the apartment complex also saw her injuries, but likewise did not call the police. Finally, the victim's mother felt that something was wrong, and called Russian authorities who called US law enforcement.
