SUMMARY:Defendant Marcus recruited the victim to engage in a BDSM relationship through an online chat room. Marcus convinced the victim to move from the Midwest to live with him in Maryland. The defendant became increasingly violent and refused to allow the victim to leave. Defendant coerced the victim into continuing to perform the sex acts by threatening to expose her and kill her her godson. The victim was forced to engage in sex acts and write diary posts, which were recorded for a website. She was repeatedly whipped, beaten, burned, cut, and forced to stay in a cage from 1998-2003. A jury convicted Marcus of sex trafficking, forced labor and dissemination of obscene material through an interactive computer service.
