ELPP Curriculum

The University of Michigan Law School provides extensive course offerings in environmental and natural resources law.  Introductory courses in Administrative Law, Environmental Law and Policy, and Natural Resources Law are offered every year or even every semester.  More than a dozen advanced courses and seminars are offered each year, including Advanced Environmental Law, Environmental Alternative Dispute Resolution, Environmental Crimes, Environmental Justice, Environmental Litigation in the Supreme Court, Great Lakes Water Wars, How to Save the Planet, International Environmental Law and Policy, and Water Law.  An Environmental Law Clinic is offered each semester, as well as environmental externships for students seeking practical experience.  ELPP also sponsors a lecture series that brings nationally renowned environmental scholars, advocates, and practitioners to the University of Michigan Law School, an annual conference on environmental law and policy, and research support.

DUAL DEGREES
Environmental and natural resources law relies heavily on interdisciplinary approaches, and Michigan Law is uniquely situated to provide students the interdisciplinary opportunities to excel as environmental attorneys.  Michigan has established 14 programs of study leading to the granting of dual degrees in fields such as Law and Natural Resources (JD/MS)Law and Public Policy (JD/MPP) and Law and Business Administration (JD/MBA), and Law and Public Health (JD/MHSA or MPH).  Students seeking dual degrees may apply to the programs that interest them during their first or second year of law studies. Ad hoc dual degree programs can also be designed to fit the more narrowly tailored needs of individual students who wish to pursue careers in environmental and natural resources law.
