Lance Johnson, '65, Supports Child Advocacy Law Clinic
|
Lance Johnson, '65, made a campaign gift of $50,000 to the Law School's Child Advocacy Law Clinic (CALC). He believes that CALC is well positioned to carry out focused scholarship and teaching to advance the field of children's rights in a way that will tangibly benefit children's ability to have meaningful relationships with both parents, even when their parents are divorced. To that end, his gift will support a workshop series that gathers scholars in the field to spark discussion and ideas and to disseminate information, thus bringing a renewed focus, stronger theoretical underpinnings, and a more highly developed jurisprudence to the pursuit of improving advocacy on behalf of children.
"Society benefits from healthy children," says Johnson. "I believe that a child whose parents are divorcing benefits from having meaningful relationships with both parents. My gift is intended to start the process of achieving that goal by requiring that the child have an independent, competent advocate, preferably a lawyer." |
