I am going to stray from the customary blog format as I have no one unifying theme underlying my thoughts. Thus any attempt at a full blown coherent writing would be futile. Alas, I am reduced to bullet points. More

In my last entry, I said I would do some entries on various places and things to do around Ann Arbor. It took me a while, but here is such an account of the Clements Library. More

There are only three reasons that I could contemplate why a person would read these blogs. The first and most obvious is that you want to go to Michigan for the Law School. More

Cue the cheesy music. Yes, I picked Michigan because of the people. Visit the schools you got into and ask yourself, would I want to spend the next three years of my life with people like this? If the answer is no, then the school will probably agree—don’t go there. But at a place like Michigan, it’s hard for the answer not to be yes. The people here are amazing. More

Less than a month into my 1L summer I find myself comparing my daily routine now to what it was before law school. Like everyone else I wondered what the transition would be like. Everyone approaches it differently. More

It is day two of the second semester of 2L and it’s been about 10 months since my last post. This should give you some indication of how busy a law student can be (or it might just say something about my laziness). In any event, my life as a law student has drastically changed with the transition from 1L to 2L. And I must say that I appreciate the change. More

Now that I've gotten a little bit of a better handle on when I can afford to be away from the books, I've decided that I'm going to make a good faith effort to check out Detroit and as much of Michigan as I can while here. More

Now that the semester is half over, I figured I’d tell you what I’ve been doing. I’ve wanted to write about the things I’m doing this semester because I think it shows the diversity of opportunities at Michigan. Though it’s very uncharacteristic of me to take “practical courses,” I find myself taking only practical courses this semester! My general philosophy usually is, “Hey, I’m spending enough money to be here in what is most likely my last go around at formal education so I’m going to take the classes that pique my interest. Bar Exam be damned!!” After working last summer, however, I realized I actually enjoy practicing law (cheers I chose the right profession!). So, coming back to school, I was looking for classes that would allow me the opportunity to engage the law on a more practical level. More

It's bar exam season, and a lot of my recently-graduated friends have just spent the last two or three days getting amped up for and plowing through what is said to be one of the most grueling and difficult tests of any young professional career. The penalties of failure are grim, but rarely fatal; the reward is - well, ahem, was - the delightful prospect of increased earning potential such that our sizable law school loans might be paid back in reasonable order. The year-clock starts now, folks. In exactly twelve months, I will likely be at least one of the following: ecstatic, disheartened, on my way to being well hung-over. More |

So being a 3L is a different experience. Everyone says that things calm down a whole lot, but you can't even imagine that being true during your first and second years of law school. It is completely true, though. So far, this has been the best semester of law school--it is also my last semester. Come December 19th I will be done with law school and then a new world of opportunities will open before me. I'm still unsure of exactly what I'm going to do, but I have complete calm and excitment about the prospect of being able to do anything. And there are several things I've learned since beginning my journey at Michigan nearly three years ago ... More

Ironically enough, the Kurt Vonnegut short story "Harrison Bergeron" has now appeared in my life three times in the last month. Such a coincidence merits an entry into my blog at 1:30 in the morning. After all, there comes a point where reading a treatise on Contracts begins to slowly (but very effectively) melt your brain. More |
