Greetings from the Law Quad! I hope you will be here for your reunion this fall, October 4-6, 2013.
You’re sure to notice some changes when you return to campus for your reunion. The most prominent is the completion of our campus expansion and renovation project. You’ll see that this project has provided us with the beautiful new facilities of South Hall, the Robert B. Aikens Commons, and the Kirkland & Ellis Café, to match the existing beauty of the Quad. These wonderful new spaces accomplish exactly what we hoped for: greater adaptability, more interaction among our community, a professional setting for the clinics, and highly functional office space for our faculty. I encourage you to experience them for yourselves.
This reunion, you’ll also have the chance to meet my successor, Mark D. West, Nippon Life Professor and associate dean for academic affairs, who will assume Michigan Law’s deanship when my final term ends on August 31, 2013. Mark has served the School wonderfully as the associate dean for academic affairs for many years, and I know you will enjoy getting to know him over your reunion weekend.
What hasn’t changed is the heart of the reunion experience: the chance to reconnect with people who shared an important time and place with you—to hear what they’ve been doing since the last reunion and to share your own story.
Celebrating their class reunions that weekend are the emeriti law classes (pre-1963) and the law classes of 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, and 1983.
The weekend promises to be exciting and memorable. I hope you can be there!
Dean, Branch Rickey Collegiate Professor of Law
