Who: We will be volunteering with Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) at their Transitional Living Community (TLC) - a women’s shelter in East New York, Brooklyn. TLC is a 40-bed section of the Brooklyn Women’s Shelter providing temporary shelter and assistance to homeless, low-income, and mentally ill women.
What: Volunteers will be gardening, weeding, planting, and pruning in the shelter’s garden.
When: Saturday, May 4, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Please arrive as close to 9:45 a.m. as possible.
Where: Transitional Living Community, 116 Williams Ave., Brooklyn, 11207. Volunteers should meet inside the garden, which is located on Glenmore Street between Williams Ave. and Hinsdale St.
Nearby subway lines: The C train (Liberty Ave.) and L train (Atlantic Avenue) are a couple blocks away. The LIRR to East New York is also close by.
What to bring: Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty!
Additional information: Children ten and older are welcome to volunteer. Lunch will be provided by the Office of Development and Alumni Relations.
