Who: We will be working with Publicolor, a nonprofit organization that paints at various public schools in the different boroughs of New York City. Publicolor’s mission includes improving education in youth by promoting an imaginative use of color in school buildings. Supported by volunteers, they transform at least nine struggling schools every year.
What: We will be volunteering on a painting project at MS 80 in the Bronx. Volunteers are paired alongside students from the school. Publicolor asks that you take time with the students to discuss the career and education choices you have made. This informal mentoring is a wonderful opportunity for volunteers and students!
When: Saturday, May 3, 2014, from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: MS 80 is located at 149 East Mosholu Pkwy N, Bronx, NY 10467.
What to bring: No need to bring anything, just please wear clothing you don't mind getting paint on. Publicolor uses odor-free latex paint that will wash out of your hair and skin, but not out of your clothes. Gloves for painting will be provided. In an effort to teach students good work habits, Publicolor asks that volunteers refrain from using cell phones while painting. If desired, please bring a water bottle for your personal use during the volunteer activity.
Additional information: Children age 16 and older are welcome to attend. A hosted lunch from the Office of Development and Alumni Relations will be provided onsite to our volunteers alongside the students.
