Who: We will be volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository in the organization's food repack program.
What: Opportunities include repacking bulk products to individual/family sizes, assembling boxes with assorted food, checking expiration dates and labeling and gleaning products.
When: Saturday, May 4, 2013, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please arrive at 1:15 p.m. ready-to-work.
Where: Greater Chicago Food Depository, 4100 West Ann Lurie Place, 60632. Directions are available on their website.
What to bring: As this is a food bank, we ask that each volunteer bring one nonperishable food item with them to donate. Priority items include: cereal (cold and hot), canned vegetables, soup, stew, tuna, canned fruit, rice, beans, pasta, pasta sauce, shelf-stable milk, peanut butter, jelly, and macaroni and cheese. If desired, please bring a water bottle for your personal use while volunteering.
Additional information: Space is available to the first 20 individuals to respond – alumni + 1 guest each on a first-come, first-served basis. A wait list will begin once we reach our limit.
All volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Volunteers must wear long pants and closed toe shoes. Depending on the assigned task, volunteers may be asked to remove jewelry located above the waist.
A boxed meal will be provided onsite by the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at the end of the volunteer shift.
