Distinguished Alumni Award

Dear friends,

It is with great pleasure that I announce the 2012 recipients of the Law School's Distinguished Alumni Award, in the hope that you will plan to attend the awards ceremony at 1:45 p.m., September 7 in Honigman Auditorium, in Hutchins Hall.

This year’s awardees are:

  • Bruce P. Bickner, ’68, former corporate executive and law firm practitioner, and longtime alumni volunteer chair of the Law School’s successful private fundraising efforts, including the campaign for our building expansion and renovation project;
  • The Honorable Amalya L. Kearse, ’62, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the first woman and second African American to be named to that bench, and the first woman and first African American lawyer to become a partner in a Wall Street law firm;
  • James J. White, ’62, the Robert A. Sullivan Professor of Law at Michigan Law, one of the most highly regarded teachers and scholars in Law School history, whose book Uniform Commercial Code (with Summers and Hillman) is considered to be the most widely recognized treatise on the subject.

These alumni are wonderful examples of the very best of Michigan Law. We’ll be honoring them as part of our weekend of events celebrating the formal dedication of South Hall, which follows at 3 p.m. on Monroe Street between Hutchins Hall and South Hall.

For questions, please contact lawevents@umich.edu or (734) 615-4535.

Sincerely,
Evan H. Caminker
