Financial Aid Checklist

In order to receive an award letter you must complete the following:

Financial Aid application materials for the 2009-10 academic year should be submitted after January 1, 2009.

To apply for loans only (Stafford and/or alternative):

Complete and submit a 2009-10 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Submit a complete signed copy of your (and your spouse's, if applicable) 2008 federal tax return.

To apply for all forms of financial aid (including grants):

Complete and submit a 2009-10 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Complete and submit a 2009-10 Need Access report.

Submit a complete signed copy of your (and your spouse's, if applicable) 2008 federal tax return.

After you receive your award letter the following steps must be completed before your financial aid will disburse:

Accept or decline your offer of financial aid on Wolverine Access under New and Prospective Student Business.
Read Required Reading.
To receive Stafford loan funds, you must complete a Direct Loan Master Promissory Note online at: http://dlenote.ed.gov/.

All federal loan recipients are required to complete entrance counseling on the Direct Loan Servicing Online web site at: www.dlssonline.com/entrancecounseling/main-
entc.asp.

You must also sign the Statement of Understanding [PDF] and return it to the Law School Financial Aid Office.

We strongly encourage you to set up direct deposit with the Payroll Office by completing the direct deposit authorization form located online at: www.payroll.umich.edu/directdep.pdf.
