Xiaomeng "Alex" Zhang, JD, MSI, MA, is a senior associate librarian (reference and foreign and comparative law) at the University of Michigan Law Library. She monitors and supervises daily reference desk transactions and provides reference, research, and bibliographic instruction services in all areas of law and for all jurisdictions. As a foreign and comparative law librarian, she selects and reviews both print and electronic legal materials specializing in non-U.S. jurisdictions and chairs the Law Library's Approval Plan Committee. She is the incoming chair of the Asian American Law Librarians Caucus and incoming executive board member of the Chinese-American Forum on Legal Information and Law Libraries. She is also a member of the State Bar of New York.
Her research interests include public access to legal information, legal research methods and methodology, and Chinese law and research. Her articles have appeared in journals such as Legal Information Management, Law Library Journal, International Journal of Legal Information, and Chinese Journal of Comparative Law. She also serves on the Peer Review Board of Reference Reviews. She was part of the New York University–U.S. Asia Law Institute's translation team for the project of translating China's 2013 Criminal Procedure Law into English. Her translations also appear in Beida Fabao Xinxiwang Wencui [ChinaLawInfo Digest] and Tan Pan [The Chinese-English Journal on Negotiation] (forthcoming).
