Joseph Aviv is co-head of the Oakland County Office of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP, where he counsels and represents high net-worth individuals and families in nonroutine matrimonial and family law matters and divorce litigation. Aviv's practice also focuses on complex securities and corporate governance litigation.
Aviv has been recognized by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, 2005-2012, as a Top Lawyer in the first tier of lawyers in the litigation/general commercial field in Michigan and is "widely admired as Michigan's leading attorney for especially high-end divorce work." He is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America, 2006-2013, in Family Law, Bet-the-Company Litigation, and Commercial Litigation, and in Michigan Super Lawyers, 2006-2013 (Top 10, 2008-2013, Top 3, 2010). He was named by Michigan Lawyers Weekly in 2003 as Lawyer of the Year for "handling one of the most complicated and publicized corporate cases in Michigan history," and in 2013 as a "Leader in the Law."
Aviv is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (2001-present) and the vice president and a member of the board of managers of the Michigan chapter. He has published articles for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) and the Michigan Family Law Journal, has previously lectured at the University of Michigan Law School and Ross School of Business, and lectures at seminars given by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, as well as by ICLE (marital property). Aviv is a former State of New York Assistant District Attorney.
