Professor Matthew Fogarty is an adjunct professor in the Legal Practice Program. He is also counsel in the Office of Export Compliance at General Motors. He advises GM on a variety of international legal and business matters, including export controls, economic sanctions, and other international trade issues. He has broad and simultaneous experience working in law, education, and publishing. From 2012 to 2015, he taught English, Writing, and Rhetoric as a graduate student instructor at the University of South Carolina. Previously, he was consulting counsel at Wiley Rein LLP, and also served as deputy associate director for presidential personnel in the White House. Professor Fogarty earned an MFA, with distinction, in creative writing from the University of South Carolina; a JD, cum laude, from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles; and a BA from the University of Michigan. His debut collection of short stories and a novella was published in 2016 and named one of the best indie books of the year by Kirkus Reviews.
