Barbara Griffin Novak has held multiple leadership positions of increasing responsibility within the automotive industry. Most recently, Novak served as vice president and corporate secretary for Meritor, responsible for corporate governance issues, SEC filings, New York Stock Exchange compliance, and securities and treasury oversight. As an executive officer of the company, Novak also provided legal counsel on federal securities laws, executive compensation, and federal compliance issues and requirements. Prior to that, she held corporate legal counsel positions with several other automotive companies including TRW Automotive, Delphi, and Collins & Aikman Corporation. In those roles, Novak was responsible for public securities filings, debt offerings, initial public offerings, listings on the New York Stock Exchange, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance efforts. Novak began her legal career in 1986 at Cravath, Swaine & Moore, with experience primarily in the corporate sector. Novak has a bachelor of arts degree with highest honors in English from the University of Michigan. She also holds a juris doctorate, cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where she was an editor on the Law Review.
