Cheng, Jie

Jie Cheng is the Bates Lea Exchange Professor at Michigan Law during fall 2015. Prof. Cheng has taught at Tsinghua University Law School since 1999 after receiving her PhD in law from Beijing University. She has held visiting appointments at Oslo University, Sciences Po Paris, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Hong Kong University. In addit​ion, she was a Fulbright Senior Visiting Scholar at Yale Law School during 2003-2004, the Nathaniel Fensterstock Visiting Associate Professor of Law at Columbia Law School in fall 2013, and an appointed associate professor of law without review at the University of British Columbia School of Law in 2014. Prof. Cheng has written extensively in the areas of constitutional law, the Hong Kong Basic Law, and freedom of information law. Her most recent book is Governance and Power: An Institutional Analysis of Chinese Constitutional Law (forthcoming 2015).
