Course DescriptionsAs of 5/25/2013 3:19:01 AMHealth Care Reform in the U.S.This seminar examines the legal and policy issues raised by the 2010
Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, one of the most ambitious
pieces of social legislation of the past century. Topics may include
insurance market reform, individual insurance regulation (eg.,
preexisting conditions clauses and the individual mandate), regulation
of employer based coverage, cost-containment, uninsurance, personal
responsibility, quality improvement, Medicare and Medicaid reform, the
role of expert advice among others. Students are expected to actively
participate in all seminar sessions and to write short papers and give
presentations throughout the semester. With the permission of the
instructor, students may write one longer research paper at the end of
the term.
