Presidential Powers

This seminar will explore the law, history, and political theory of presidential power in the United States, with particular attention to its interaction with the courts and Congress. Among other substantive legal topics, we will discuss war powers, national security authority, foreign affairs authorities, emergency powers, congressional oversight, presidential privilege and immunity, presidential control of the administration, and a comparative look at executive power in parliamentary systems.
